Portraits, Leicester
The first specially commissioned moving image artwork for The Beacons sculpture, Portraits is a moving image portrait of the people of Leicester. 160 people were invited to be filmed for 60 seconds though 360 degrees, at the city’s Curve Theatre. From afar the rotating portraits tower over St Peters Square like giant moving statues. Up-close the participant’s short performance, their movement and clothing illuminates, animates and colours the public space around it.
The artwork was commissioned by Hammerson and filmed with photographer Leon Chew at Leicester's Curve Theatre.
